Letterpress – an almost forgotten printing technique

Letterpress – eine fast vergessene Drucktechnik

We had a box made for our Riso postcards using the letterpress process. Letterpress was one of the most common printing techniques for over 500 years, but it gradually disappeared due to offset printing in the 1960s and 70s.

Over 15 years ago, young creative people, who are more often at home in design, typography and art, began working with old letterpress presses again. However, especially in the USA, a style was chosen that would have been taboo in earlier letterpress times: using a lot of pressure, these letterpress machines left a clear embossing in the paper.

Printing is not done in CMYK, the normal industrial four-color printing, as is usual, but with pure solid colors (e.g. Pantone uncoated or HKS N) and only one color per print run.

Our bestselling motif »May all your Dreams come true« now adorns the beautifully embossed lid and the sturdy brass corners give the simple gray cardboard elegance and style.

The pretty gift box is perfect for our postcards. It was made for us in the Ruhr area at Letterpresso.
